Angelique Kidjo continues to rack in the Grammys! The Beninese singer-songwriter, living up to her nickname, ‘Africa’s Premier Diva’ became the first home-grown African woman to win four Grammy awards.

She is also the only African woman to have received nine Grammy nominations. At the award show hosted on Sunday, January 26 by fifteen-times Grammy award winner, Alicia Keys, Kidjo was announced as the winner of the Best World Music Album.

She was nominated in the Best World Music category for her seventeenth album, ‘Celia’. The other nominees in the category include Altin Gün, Nathalie Joachim with Spektral Quartet, Bokanté And Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley, and Nigeria’s Burna Boy.

It is the third time she will win a Grammy in this category. Interestingly, she worked with Burna Boy who was also nominated in that category on “Different”, a song from his “African Giant” album.

She dedicated the Grammy to Burna Boy saying, “This is for Burna Boy! Burna Boy is among those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived and the way African music has been the bedrock of every music.”

Congratulations are in order to the 59-year-old woman for breaking records and creating new paths for other African artists. We hope that there will be many more hits, more impact made and many more wins for Angelique Kidjo!
