He's alive Kim Yo Jong make his first public appearance

He's alive (maybe)! North Korean media releases unverified images of a smiling Kim Jong-Un making his first public appearance for 20 days amid claims he had died and handed power to his sister

The despot cut the ribbon at the opening of a fertiliser factory in Sunchon, state media reported, and released pictures supposedly showing the event. Kim was seen smiling and talking to aides at the ceremony and also touring the plant, but the authenticity of the photos could not be verified. The dictator was accompanied by several senior North Korean officials including his younger sister Kim Yo Jong (left of bottom image), Korean Central News Agency said. Asked about the KCNA report, US President Donald Trump said: 'I'd rather not comment on it yet. We'll have something to say about it at the appropriate time.' Speculation about Kim's health has been rife after he missed the birth anniversary celebrations of state founder Kim Il Sung on April 15.

Western intelligence dossier claims China lied about human-to-human transmission

Bombshell 'Five Eyes' Western intelligence blast China...

A leaked 15-page dossier from the 'Five Eyes' intelligence alliance states China's secrecy over the pandemic is an 'assault on international transparency'.
The US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand intelligence agencies have exposed a series of cover-ups, according to the dossier, including a 'deadly denial of human-to-human transmission', whistle-blowers including businessman Fang Bin and former state TV reporter Li Zehua (both inset) going missing, evidence of the outbreak being destroyed and China refusing to hand over virus samples for countries to develop vaccines. The leaked files show the nations were probing the possibility the virus was leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The dossier refers to Dr. Shi Zhengli's (left) research at the lab into deadly bat-derived coronaviruses, with at least one virus a 96% genetic match for COVID-19. This week, Trump (right) said he had seen evidence the virus may have been created in the lab but would not divulge what the evidence was. Australia meanwhile has maintained the virus most likely came from the wet market. But the leaked documents also reveal the Australian government trained and funded key scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

US regulators approve experimental drug Remdesivir for emergency use for coronavirus patients, days after study showed it may help the worst-hit .

US may approve emergency use of Ebola drug remdesivir TODAY - as Oxford expert hails trial as 'fantastic result and great news for the fight against Covid-19'

Remdesivir, an antiviral made by California-based Gilead Sciences, was shown to slash recovery times in a global trial of more than 1,000 patients, including Britons. Anthony Fauci, America's top infectious disease expert, told yesterday's White House briefing: 'What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus.' Echoing those sentiments, Peter Horby, Professor of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Oxford, and chair of the Government's Nervtag committee which assesses disease threats, told The Times it was a 'fantastic result and great news for the fight against Covid- 19.'

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also blasted China for not letting the U.S. in to examine the Wuhan lab

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also blasted China for its conduct related to the virus, and Chinese state media have hit back in highly personal terms.

Pompeo on Wednesday accused China of spreading disinformation. He has referred to COVID-19 as the 'Wuhan virus.'

'The mere fact that we don't know the answers - that China hasn't shared the answers - I think is very, very telling,' said Pompeo.

He also has pushed China to let outside experts into the lab 'so that we can determine precisely where this virus began.'

Senior administration officials are pushing US spy agencies to search for information of the link, the New York Times reported. Some analysts raised concerns the pressure could warp US conclusions and assessments.

El Salvador ignores social distancing in jailhouse lockdowns after nation sees 22 murders
President Nayib Bukele, 38, announced a prison emergency on Friday night. Gang member prisoners were forced together in social distancing violation. El Salvador has been in nationwide lockdown since March and suffered its highest murder spike since Bukele took office in June 2019.

Inmates at an El Salvador prison were forced together in a jailhouse lockdown as authorities ignored social distancing rules on Saturday.

The Izalco prison inmates were crammed next to each other after President Nayib Bukele ordered a 24-hour lockdown of prisons containing gang members.

President Bukele said their leaders would be sent into solitary confinement after a sudden spike of 22 homicides on Friday

President Bukele wrote on Twitter: 'No contact with the outside world. Shops will remain closed and all activities are suspended until further notice.

'Gang leaders will go into solitary confinement.'

Bukele said the 'maximum emergency' lockdown would be enforced while police investigated the 22 murders reported on Friday.

That number was the highest total in a single day since Bukele took office last June, a police spokesman said.

Recall that in an interview with BBC in October 2016, Aisha alleged that his husband’s government was being controlled by a few cabal.

She was recently reported to have criticized her husbands social investment programme, saying its purpose was defeated.

According to him, the controversy started when it was obvious that Oshiomhole was trying to be in full control of the state.

He also alleged that the controversial inauguration of the assembly in the night was the outcome of what he described as “dubious primaries” before the 2019 general elections.

Obaseki succeeded Oshiomhole on November 12, 2016, having won the governorship election. He’s expected to seek reelection when the state goes to governorship poll in 2020.

Already, a political rivalry is brewing between the two powerful Edo politicians ahead of the crucial election that would determine who will be in control of the South Southern state.

Recalled that in April 2019, one of Nigeria’s dailies reported that there’s a cold war between the two men.

Their differences had reportedly divided APC heavyweights in the state, both of them have denied the existence of a rift between them, reported Daily Independent.

It was also alleged that Obaseki who is unhappy over Oshiomhole’s grip on the affairs of the state waged war against the powerful loyalists of Oshiomhole, who also worked for the victory of Obaseki in 2016 poll.

According to reports, the governor had to make a U-turn when it was obvious that he would find it difficult to get things done without actively engaging the stakeholders. He opted to woo Oshiomhole’s foot soldiers to his side, which reportedly infuriated the former labour leader.

The latest political impasse in the state entered a new dimension when loyalists of both men fought to get the party’s tickets before the 2019 elections.

According to Daily Independent, Obaseki pushed his loyalists for the state House of Assembly election, who would assist bring his second term ambition to fruition while Oshiomhole also wanted his loyalists in the state Assembly.

In the last few months, the APC National Chairman had had to battle with several internal crises.

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole has been accused of choosing the entire cabinet members for Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki in November 2016.

OSHIOMHOLE CHOSE COMMISSIONERS FOR EDO GOVERNOR OBASEKI- APC MEMBER ALLEGES

A member of APC Jefferson Uwoghiren made the accusation on Channels’ Sunrise Daily on June 19, 2019.

He was speaking on the crisis rocking the ruling party in the state following the controversy surrounding the manner in which a few members of the state’s legislature were sworn in on June 18.

According to PM News, the inauguration was done behind closed doors. It was gathered that nine members were sworn in instead of 24 members-elect.

The Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the governor, Crusoe Osagie, in a statement said only members who made themselves available were sworn in.

TINUBU, AMAECHI, OSHIOMHOLE DISAGREE OVER WHO BECOMES NEXT... SEE WHY

3
Collision in APC.... As three key personalities in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are on a course for collision as they all
jostle to get their respective nominees to serve as the substantive MD for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The report has it that, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and Rotimi Amaechi the immediate past Minister of Transportation are enmeshed in a power play on who would produce the Managing Director of the commission.

The National Leader of the APC has been said to be promoting a candidate from the southwest, precisely Ondo State, to get the position for the first time. On the other hand, Oshiomhole wants a candidate from his home state of Edo, Samson Osagie, to become the new MD of the NDDC.

The immediate past Minister of Transportation, is said to have largely influenced the formation of the past board of the NDDC and is said to be rooting for Nelson Brambaifa who is currently acting at the helm of affairs of the commission as he reportedly influenced his appointment in the first place.

This power moves by the political heavyweights is coming as the President is said to be thinking of reconstituting the board of the commission after it was dissolved five months ago.

Tinubu is said to be angling for Oke, from Ondo State to be appointed in that capacity.

It is said that the deputy governor of Ondo State Mr Agboola Ajayi is as well angling for the position as he may not be interested in running alongside Akeredolu in his bid to govern the state for another tenure.

This is he is said to be secretly carrying out consultations with his associates ahead of the governorship elections coming up in the state next year, 2020.

“The race for the headship of the agency is getting more interesting by the day; this time around, it appears Amaechi may not have a field day like he had the other time because other big fishes have entered the river. Already, we are seeing the signs of people trying to outplay one another.

“So much intrigues have come into play and this time around, it’s survival of the fittest from all indications because the case of Ondo which is being pushed by a prominent leader of the party looks very strong and it cannot be ignored at all.

“If Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa have all had the MD position twice, it then means that Ondo which is the fifth in production quota should be given a chance to produce the next MD of NDDC.

“Yes, Edo has good case too but since Ondo is higher in production quota than Edo, I strongly believe that our national chairman can show understanding for the Sunshine state to take this turn for Edo to follow next.

“What is most disturbing was the idea that anyone who occupies the position of NDDC MD thinks it is a springboard for the governorship of his state. We are trying to discourage that notion because it does not give room for the NDDC to be focused on its vision for the people of the Niger Delta region,” he said.

Oke had served as the APC presidential campaign coordinator in the South-West during the 2019 elections. He is said to have received the support of Tinubu after he was reportedly told to forget his plans to contest as Governor of Ondo State in 2020.

INEC Give inability to make use of the server before petition

3
INEC Give inability to make use of the server before petition - to the late release of funds for the election.

The claim by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it has no server has just been confirmed.

With this report, Atiku’s  the Presidential Election Tribunal is already looking shaky as a large chunk of his claims is based on the argument that INEC’s resident commissioners and Returning Officers transmitted collated results to its central server in Abuja.

Recall that Atiku and the PDP had claimed that the results of the Presidential election as seen on INEC’s server reveals that he won the presidential election with a margin of about 2 million.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has revealed that it only experimented the electronic transmission of results through the use of a server and it was not deployed in the 2019 general elections.

INEC said it after clamour rose for the commission to make it server available for the Peoples Democratic Party and its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The commission had insisted it did not make use of a server in 2019 despite budgeting and receiving N2.27 billion for server-related procurement items.

Making this revelation, Solomon Soyebi, Osun State, INEC National Commissioner, explained that the issue of the server was dropped while adding that the commission only experimented the use of a server in the Anambra, Sokoto and Osun elections.

“We piloted the use of transmission of election results electronically in Sokoto, in Anambra, even in Osun. What happened was that we were trying to pilot to see the desirability of such technology in our electoral process.

“Once in a while, you will see an experiment going on but we have to pilot it before we will deploy wholesale for election. We did not use it because of circumstances beyond the control of the Commission,” Soyebi said.

Soyebi attributed the inability to make use of the server to the late release of funds for the election.

He said, “First, our budget came out very late. There was also (an) issue (with) the Electoral Act. For these and some other reasons, the commission did not adopt that option; 2019 elections were conducted according to the law.

“We used the Constitution of the Federal Republic, we used the Electoral Act and our guidelines for 2019 elections. If you look at the three instruments carefully, the issue of the server was not highlighted.”

FANI-KAYODE REPLIES TO SENATE PRESIDENT LAWAN

3
ON PLANNED 2023 PRESIDENCY FOR SOUTH WEST - Fani-Kayode said restructuring or separation is the solution to Nigeria’s multi-faceted problems.

A stalwart of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Femi Fani-Kayode has berated the position of the Senate President Ahmed Lawan on the planned 2023 presidency for the South West.

In an interview with journalists in Yola, Adamawa state, the new President of the Senate had said power shift to the South-west in 2023 would be the best honour that can be bestowed on the late Chief MKO Abiola.

Late MKO Abiola, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was the acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 Presidential election which was annulled by former military President Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

He was arrested by a former military dictator, Late Gen. Sani Abacha and died in detention on July 7, 1998.

A public holiday, June 12, had been declared in his honour and awarded national honour posthumously.

While there was raging controversy about the National Stadium, Abuja, which was renamed after the late business mogul turned politician, Lawan stated that MKO Abiola deserved more, one of such is to console the South West with the 2023 presidential ticket.

Reacting on the development,  Fani-Kayode said restructuring or separation is the solution to Nigeria’s multi-faceted problems.

“The solution to our problems is not a power shift but restructuring or separation. Even if you shift power between the north and south for the next 100 years it means nothing. As long as some regard themselves as the master race and others as their slaves nothing will change.

“We are not interested in sharing power with the north: we are interested in winning our freedom from them,” he tweeted.

There have been public debates, even before the 2019 elections were held, that the South East should be given the 2023 presidential ticket.

South-East which is predominantly Igbos have has cried over marginalisation since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

The latest statement by Lawan calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to take a step further by handing over the 2023 presidential ticket to the South-west could mean that the South East region should bury the idea of occupying Aso Rock in 2023.

Lawan, who is from Yobe had said, “The president and indeed our party must beware of divisive elements who are now proponents of retaining power in the north beyond 2023”.

He said giving the 2023 ticket to the South West would be another honour on the Late MKO Abiola.

Lawan’s position has sparked hundreds of controversies on social media.

Nnamdi Kanu’s Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led which has always advocated for the secession of the region from Nigeria was yet to react at the time of filing this report.

The secret man on whom Regina Daniels has been crushing on has been identified as Burna Boy. This has come as a shock as she
just recently confirmed her marriage to 59-year-old politician, Ned Nwoko. Regina opened up on her crush for Burna Boy in a

In the six minutes long video, Regina says her crush is the musician, who she also referred to as the Ganjaman. Her love for
Burna Boy was further reiterated when she said the singer’s track, ‘Vampire’ remains her favourite song. The actress went ahead
to reveal English football club, Manchester United as her favourite football club.

When asked of her marital status, Regina adjusted her engagement ring and simply said, ‘Married.’[Instagram/ReginaDaniels]
Recall that when asked of her marital status, Regina adjusted her engagement ring and simply said, ‘Married.’ She noted that she does not give a second chance but also confessed to being a night crawler. The Nollywood actress recently returned to a movie set for her mum’s new production, ‘The Enemy Within’ which features Bolanle Ninalowo, Sola Sobowale, Desmond Elliot and Ken Erics. After many weeks of painting the town red with lots of activities including her traditional wedding and children day’s concert, Regina Daniel is back on set. The actress is currently filming a new movie with the working title, ‘The enemy I know.’ Also on the movie set are Ken Erics, Jide Kosoko, Desmond  Elliot, Tana Adelana, and Arole. Since Regina Daniel’s marriage to Ned Nwoko took place, she has been making waves and has shown no signs of slowing down
anytime soon. Most of the time, most actresses stop acting after their marriage. It may be family pressure or husband’s
unwillingness. This is true in the movie industry but there are a few actresses who make a comeback even after their marriage.
Ned Nwoko is obviously one of the husbands of actresses that are not against their wives being in the movie industry.

The speech MKO Abiola made on June 11, 1994, that sent him to Abacha’s jail

3
Bellow is the speech MKO Abiola made on June 11, 1994, that sent him to Abacha’s jail

People of Nigeria, exactly one year ago, you turned out in your millions to vote for me, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

But politicians in uniform, who call themselves soldiers but are more devious than any civilian would want to be, deprived you of your God-given right to be ruled by the President you had yourselves elected.

These soldier-politicians introduced into our body politic, a concept hitherto unknown to our political lexicography, something strangely called the ‘annulment’ of an election perceived by all to have been the fairest, cleanest and most peaceful ever held in our nation.

Since that abominable act of naked political armed robbery occurred, I have been constantly urged by people of goodwill, both in Nigeria and abroad, to put the matter back into the people’s hands and get them to actualise the mandate they gave me at the polls.

But mindful of the need to ensure that peace continues to reign in our fragile federation, I have so far tried to pursue sweet reason and negotiation.

My hope has always been to arouse whatever remnants of patriotism are left in the hearts of these thieves of your mandate and to persuade them that they should not allow their personal desire to rule to usher our beloved country into an era of political instability and economic ruin.

All I have sought to do, in seeking dialogue with them, has been to try and get them to realise that only real democracy can move our nation forward towards progress, and earn her the respect she deserves from the international community.

However, although this peaceful approach has exposed me to severe censure by some who have mistaken it for weakness on my part, those with whom I have sought to dialogue have remained like stones, neither stirred to show loyalty to the collective decision of the people of their own country, nor to observe Allah’s injunction that they should exhibit justice and fair-play in all their dealings with their fellow men.

Appeals to their honour as officers and gentlemen of the gallant Nigerian Armed Forces have fallen on deaf ears.

Instead, they have resorted to the tactics of divide and rule, bribery and political perfidy, misinformation and (vile) propaganda.

They arrest everyone who disagrees with them. Even the 71-year old hero of our nation, Chief Anthony Enahoro, was not spared.

How much longer can we tolerate all this? People of Nigeria, you are all witnesses that I have tried to climb the highest mountain, cross the deepest river and walk the longest mile, in order to get these men to obey the will of our people.

There is no humiliation I have not endured, no snare that has not been put in my path, no ‘setup’ that has not been designed for me in my endeavour to use the path of peace to enforce the mandate that you bestowed on me one year ago.

It has been a long night. But the dawn is here.

Today, people of Nigeria, I join you all in saying, “Enough is Enough!

We have endured 24 years of military rule in our 34 years of independence.

Military rule has led to our nation fighting a civil war with itself. Military rule has destabilised our nation today as not before in its history.

Military rule has impoverished our people and introduced a dreadful trade in drugs which has made our country’s name an anathema in many parts of the world.

Even soccer fans going to watch the Green Eagles display in America are being made to suffer there needlessly because Nigeria’s name is linked with credit card and fraud and ‘419.’

Politically, military rule has torn to shreds the prestige due to our country because of its size and population.

The permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council that should be rightfully ours, is all but lost.

For who will vote for Nigeria to get the seat if Nigerian military rulers do not respect the votes of their own people?

Enough of military rule.

We are sickened to see people who have shown little or no personal achievement, either in building up private businesses or making a success of any tangible thing, being placed in charge of the management of our nation’s economy, by rulers who are not accountable to anyone.

Enough of square pegs in round holes.

We are tired of the military’s repetitive tendency to experiment with our economy: Today, they say “no controls.” Tomorrow; they say “Full controls”. The day after, they say “Fine tuning”. The next day, they say “Devaluation.” A few days later, they say “Revalue the same naira upwards again Abi?”

All we can see are the consequences of this permanent game of military “about turns;” high inflation, a huge budget deficit and an enormous foreign debt repayment burden, dying industries, high unemployment and a demoralised populace.

Our youths, in particular, can see no hope on the horizon, and many can only dream of escaping from our shores to join the brain drain. Is this the Nigeria we want?

We are plagued also by periodic balance of payments crises, which have led to a perennial shortage of essential drugs, that has turned our hospitals and clinics into mortuaries.

A scarcity of books and equipment has rendered our schools into desolate deserts of ignorance.

Our factories are crying for machinery, spare parts and raw materials. But each day that passes, instead of these economic diseases being cured, they are rather strengthened as an irrational allocation of foreign exchange based on favouritism and corruption becomes the order of the day.

Enough is enough of economic mismanagement! People of Nigeria, during the election campaign last year, I presented you with a programme entitled “HOPE ’93.”

This programme was aimed precisely at solving these economic (problems) that have demoralised us all.

I toured every part of Nigeria to present this programme to you the electorate. I was questioned on it at public rallies and press conferences and I had the privilege of incorporating into it much of the feedback that I obtained from the people.

Because you knew I would not only listen to you but deliver superb results from the programme, you voted for me in your millions and gave me an overwhelming majority over my opponent.

To be precise, you gave me 58.4 per cent of the popular vote and a majority in 20 out of 30 states plus the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Not only that, but you also enabled me to fulfil the constitutional requirement that the winner should obtain one-third of the votes in two-thirds of the states.

I am sure that when you cast an eye on the moribund state of Nigeria today, you ask yourselves: ‘What have we done to deserve this when we have a president-elect who can lead a government that can change things for the better? Our patience has come to an end.’

As of now, from this moment, a new Government of National Unity is in power throughout the length and breadth of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, led by me, Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola, as President and Commander-in-Chief.

The National Assembly is hereby reconvened. All dismissed governors are reinstated. The State Assemblies are reconstituted, as are all local government councils.

I urge them to adopt a bi-partisan approach to all the issues that come before them.

At the national level, a bi-partisan approach will be our guiding principle. I call upon the usurper, General Sani Abacha, to announce his resignation forthwith, together with the rest of his illegal ruling council.

We are prepared to enter into negotiations with them to work out the mechanics for a smooth transfer of power.

I pledge that if they hand over quietly, they will be retired with all their entitlements, and their positions will be accorded all the respect due to them.

For our objective is neither recrimination nor witch-hunting, but an enforcement of the will of the Nigerian people, as expressed in free elections conducted by the duly constituted authority of the time.

I hereby invoke the mandate bestowed upon me by my victory in the said election, to call on all members of the Armed Forces and the Police, the Civil and Public Services throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to obey only the Government of National Unity that is headed by me, your only elected President.

My Government of National Unity is the only legitimate, constituted authority in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as of now.

People of Nigeria, these are challenging times in the history of our continent, Africa, and we in Nigeria must not allow ourselves to be left behind.

Our struggle is the same as that waged by the people of South Africa, which has been successfully concluded, with the inauguration of Mr Nelson Mandela as the first African President of that country.

Nelson Mandela fought to replace MINORITY rule with MAJORITY rule.

We in Nigeria are also fighting to replace MINORITY rule, for we are ruled by only a tiny section of our armed forces.

Like the South Africans, we want MAJORITY rule today, that is rule only by those chosen by all the people of Nigeria as a whole in free and fair elections.

The only difference between South Africa and Nigeria is that those who imposed minority rule on the majority rule whether it is by black or white remains minority rule, and must be booted out.

I call on you, heroic people of Nigeria, to emulate the actions of your brothers and sisters in South Africa and stand up as one person to throw away the yoke of minority rule forever.

The antics of every minority that oppresses the majority are always the same. They will try to intimidate you with threats of police action. But do not let us fear arrest.

In South Africa, so many people were arrested, during the campaign against the Pass Laws, for instance, that the jails could not hold all of them. Today, apartheid is gone forever.

So, let it be with Nigeria.

Let us say goodbye forever to minority rule by the military.

They talk of treason. But haven’t they heard of the Rivonia treason trial in South Africa? Did those treason trials halt the march of history?

People of Nigeria, our time is now. You are the repository of power in the land.

No one can give you power. It is yours. Take it!

From this day, show to the world that anyone who takes the people of Nigeria for fools is deceiving himself and will have the people to answer to.

God bless you all. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Long live the Government of National Unity.

JUNE 12: SPEECH THAT SENT MKO ABIOLA TO ABACHA’S PRISON

3

MKO Abiola June 11, 1994

June 12 has been backed by Nigerian law as the official Democracy Day by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola summoned all courage and motivation from his perceived supporters on a Saturday, June 11, 1994, to declare himself Nigeria’s President.

It happened at the commercial city of Lagos, precisely at Epetedo, a suburb of the City. The event happened a day to the first anniversary of “June 12, 1993,” when MKO Abiola won Nigeria’s presidential poll.

He had won the presidential poll as the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) by defeating his opponent Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

He had 58.36% of the total votes cast by winning in 20 out of 30 states against Tofa at the time.

But the military president at the time Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida annulled the elections despite the global positive perception of the polls.

The annulment changed the political history of Nigeria, and the heat was too much for Babangida to bear.

He stepped aside on August 26, 1993, and handed over power to another Yoruba man Chief Ernest Shonekan as the interim president of Nigeria, first of such in Nigeria since the country gained Independence on October 1, 1960.

Babangida’s decision gave birth to the formulation of various political movements for restoration of  MKO Abiola as the duly elected president. One of them was the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).

But one of the senior military officers at the time late General Sani Abacha planned and executed a palace coup and peacefully led Shonekan out of the presidential palace on November 17, 1993.

Relying on international recognition of the 1993 election and banking on the support NADECO June 11, 1994, mounted a political podium to announce himself as the president.

That announcement culminated into his never return journey as Abacha, who was barely seven months in office, ordered hundreds of police, soldiers and other security operatives to get MKO Abiola arrested.

Abiola died in detention on July 7, 1998, after spending four years in Abacha’s jail.

Gbajabiamila accused of N3.5 million vote buying for House Speakership

Gbajabiamila accused of N3.5 million vote buying for House Speakership

On the allegation of vote buying by Gbajabiamila PDP has accused the APC says they would not have their way in.

A faction of All Progressive Congress (APC) has been accused of inducing members of the Lower legislative Chamber with N3,550,000 ($10,000) as the Federal lawmakers are expected to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives expected to kick start a few minutes from this publication (June 11, 2019).

It was also alleged that an unnamed card was given to some members of the house aimed at luring the cast their votes for the APC’s preferred candidate.

In a swift reaction to the allegation, a member of APC Hon. Abdulrazak Saad Namdas said it was a false alarm being raised by the opposition.

Speaking on Channels’ Sunrise Daily, Namdas who seemed to twist the question said there was nothing bad if members carry the card of the members they’re supporting.

On the allegation of vote buying by Gbajabiamila, the Adamawa-born politician who accused the opposition of being behind the rumour said they (PDP) would not have their way.

The faction is allegedly working for Femi Gbajabiamila, a former House Leader of the House who had toured all six geopolitical zones canvassing for support.

He’s seen as one of the political godsons of a South West political heavyweight Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila who represents Surulere I Federal Constituency is one of the leading contenders for the position of the Speaker.

He was endorsed by APC and President Muhammadu Buhari had also reportedly endorsed him over other candidates.

Other candidates for the position who are members of APC are Umar Bago, John Dyegh, Segun Odebunmi, Emeka Nwajiuba and Olajide Olatubosun.

It was gathered that the position of Speaker was zoned to the South West by APC, but that hasn’t stopped other members from coming out to try their luck.

President Buhari is from the North West, the preferred Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan is from the North East.

It is also dramatic that North Central zone is making a strong case for the position.  Bago and Dyegh are from the North Central. But Bago towers above him. Bago had said the endorsement of Gbajabiamila only reflects the opinion of the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

At the time of compiling this report, security has been beefed up in and around the National Assembly complex.

Reports from the complex said all the entry points into the legislative chamber are being manned by operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, police and other agencies.

A mild drama is expected.

Buhari Okays Onnoghen’s Voluntary Retirement, Makes Request

President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the voluntary retirement of Justice Walter Onnoghen from service as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Chat212 News understands that the Nigerian leader requested that the acting CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, should initiate the process of appointing five new justices of the Supreme Court.

Spokesman for Buhari Garba Shehu made Buhari’s decision known on Sunday in a statement.

The statement read: “Pursuant to the provisions of Section 230(2) A&B of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to request that you initiate in earnest the process of appointing additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make the full complement of 21 Justices as provided by the aforementioned provisions of the Constitution.

“This is in line with the government’s agenda of repositioning the judiciary in general and Supreme Court in particular for greater efficiency, with a view to reducing the backlogs of appeals pending at the Supreme Court.

‘‘Please accept, your Lordship, the assurances of my highest regards.’’

With regard to Onnoghen’s retirement, the statement says “President Buhari has accepted the voluntary retirement from service of Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria, effective from May 28, 2019.

“The President thanked Justice Onnoghen for his service to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and wished him the best of retirement life.”

Certificate of Return, in respect of the Imo West Senatorial Election”, said INEC.

3
The statement issued had read in part:

“The Commission’s overriding consideration is the safety of its ad-hoc staff, Electoral Officers and Collation/Returning Officers and is worried that if electoral impunity is allowed to flourish, any individual can harass, intimidate and put the Commission’s officers under duress, procure a favourable declaration and be rewarded with a Certificate of Return”, said Okoye.

The court case had been heard in a  Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by the Justice Okon Abang  who had directed the Commission to issue a Certificate of Return to Rochas Okorocha as the Senator-elect for Imo West Senatorial District.

The commission however said they had been served with the Order of a High Court of Imo State, presided over by Hon. Justice Njemanze, that had subsequently directed the Commission not to issue a Certificate of Return to any of the candidates that contested the Imo West Senatorial District election.

“The Order from the High Court of Imo State was issued on 23rd May 2019 and the suit has been further adjourned to 26th June 2019. “The Commission is aware that the judgement delivered by the Federal High Court, Abuja is the latest in time and determined the rights of the parties in relation to the subject matter of the Certificate of Return, in respect of the Imo West Senatorial Election”, said INEC.

The Commission had also gone ahead to explain in no small details that it  was taking a critical review of all state levels 2019 general elections and all the National Commissioners are either in or heading to their States of Supervision to coordinate activities relating to the said review.

“In view of the import and directives of the said judgement, the Commission will meet as soon as practicable to do the needful. “As a law-abiding institution, the Commission will continue to obey judgements of all courts of competent jurisdiction”, INEC added.
