There was pandemonium over the weekend in Igbedi community Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State when gunmen stormed the Anglican Church in the community to abduct a popular Engineer identified as Duncan Eke.
The abductors also shot and injured one of the presiding Reverend Ezekiel Obata while trying to escape the scene.
Eye witness accounts say that the Sunday service was going on when suddenly at about 12.40p gunmen invaded the church and forcibly took their victim away.
Obata was immediately taken to an hospital, where his condition was stabilized, while the church members reported the matter to the Police.
Contacted, the state police public relations officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
Butswat said the injured victim was rushed to a clinic at Polaku in the outskirts of Yenagoa where he is responding to treatment.
“On the 24 January, 2016, at about 1240hrs, unknown gunmen abducted one Engineer Dunkan Eke, at Igbedi Community, in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA. The abductors also shot and injured one Reverend Ezekiel Obata. The injured victim is responding to treatment at a clinic in Polaku. Efforts have been intensified to rescue the victim and arrest the abductors,” Police said.
