Who Won What At The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards

Burna Boy did not pick up his first-ever Grammy award for ‘Best World Music Album’ at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last night. But Angelique Kidjo picked up her fourth at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, becoming the first and only African woman to have achieved such a feat.

The show was hosted by fifteen-time Grammy award winner, Alicia Keys who began by singing a tribute alongside Boyz II Men in honour of Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant and his thirteen-year-old daughter had been confirmed dead a few hours before the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

It was the biggest gathering of some of the most popular names in music from across the world. Living up to its name as the biggest award in music, there were performances from 42 of the biggest music stars in the US. Some of the biggest global acts like Lizzo, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Demi Lovato, H.E.R, BTS, and Jonas Brothers performed at the show.

There was a particularly memorable tribute performance for Nipsey Hussle featuring John Legend, DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, Roddy Ricch, YG, and Kirk Franklin. Nipsey Hussle also received two posthumous awards for ‘Best Rap Performance’ and ‘Best Rap/Song Performance’.

Billie Eilish who received six nominations took home all the awards she was nominated for. She received the Grammys for ‘Record of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Best New Artist’, Song of the Year’, ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’, and Best Engineered Album, non-classical.

Lizzo who received the highest nominations with eight nods went home with three wins for ‘Best Pop Solo Performance’, ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’, ‘Best Urban Contemporary Album’.

Beyonce’s “Lion King: The Gift” album did not win the award for ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’. This means that Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Tekno, and Mr Eazi all missed out on Grammy credits.
