#NETThrowback: Original Street Anthems – An Oritse Femi Playlist

Born Oritsefemi Majemite Ekele, singer-songwriter and performer Oritse Femi is one of the biggest stars to come out of Ajegunle – the Lagos community that was THE “streets” of the late 90s and early 2000s. Long before places like Bariga (Olamide) and Mushin (Wande Coal) produced stars, Ajegunle had produced Baba Fryo, Daddy Fresh, and Marvelous Benjy.

Dropping out of school to face a music career on the streets of Ajegunle was no joke back in the day. He persisted and perfected his sound, going on to have a decent career with multiple hit singles, 8 projects and several awards.

Fun fact: Oritse Femi used to be part of a group called Junglist. It had two members – Oritse Femi and his childhood friend, Chibudo aka Chi-junglist. The group split in 2006 and Oritse Femi went solo.
