Done Deal: Liverpool's €15m target finally seals transfer move, club president poses with the player - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

After a lot of twists and turns for over two months, Udinese winger Piotr Zielinski has found a new home. Premier League giants Liverpool were heavily interested in signing him but he had other ideas. The attacking midfielder will continue to stay in Italy and will start the 2016-17 campaign with Serie A giants Napoli.

This was not just a mere passing interest from the Reds; it was genuine. The player wanted to join the Premier League side as well, he even wore a Liverpool shirt during a friendly match, but somehow the deal didn’t materialise.

Check some of the headlines from Soccerlens from May to June on Zielinski’s transfer saga:

16th May: Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski close to joining Liverpool
17th May: Liverpool to complete Piotr Zielinski signing by Wednesday

The interest died down for a while as the player shifting his focus on Euro 2016 and AC Milan joining the race for his signature at the same time. The rumours resurfaced again in mid-June.

13th June: Liverpool leading the race to sign Piotr Zielinski
20th June: Piotr Zielinski could complete Liverpool transfer this week
23rd June: Piotr Zielinski set for Liverpool medical after Euro 2016
2nd July: Zielinski gives his word to Liverpool

There, you see, he was close to joining Liverpool. Just that, the deal didn’t take off, for whatever reasons. Napoli and Udinese have finally reached a €15m deal earlier this week and the player has signed a five-year deal with the Naples club.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has posted a picture of him with the player on social networking site Twitter. The Polish international is a very good player who would add immense quality to the Naples squad. He will link up with international team-mate Arkadiusz Milik, who also joined Napoli earlier this week from Ajax.
