Late Prof. Oyedijo, LASU Faculty of Management Sciences
  • Senate holds special session for him next week

The Lagos State University (LASU) has lost one of its senior management staff, he is Prof Adesayo Oyedijo even as the Vice Chancellor, Prof Lanre Fagbohun commiserated with the family.

Daily Sun gathered that Prof Oyedijo reported to work on Monday, January 11, same day the new VC assumed office but on his way home, he experienced breathing problem along Igando Road.
He came down from his official vehicle and sought for help and it was learnt some good Samaritans rushed him to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
Daily Sun gathered that doctors at LASUTH battled to revive him but he died around 8.00pm and the news of his death hit the main campus on Tuesday thus academic and administrative activities were grounded in the faculty as staffs mourn his sudden death.
Our Correspondent gathered that when the news of Prof Oyedijo hit Ojo campus of LASU, many who saw him at work on Monday were shocked to believe the news that he passed on last night.
As expected the Senate would next week hold a special session in his honour before his burial same week. Daily Sun learnt that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) LASU may not participate in the burial programme because he stopped paying check off dues and attending congress.
A senior staff at Admin Block 1 told our Correspondent that during the protracted crisis that engulfed LASU, Prof Oyedijo stopped paying ASUU check off dues, backed the Asokere-led ASUU-LASU faction and that his letter to the former VC, Prof John Obafunwa lead to the withdrawal of 19 PhD certificates including that of ASUU-LASU chairman, Dr. Adekunle Idris.
‘’My friend journalist, have you forgotten so soon, Prof Oyedijo was the PhD supervisor of Dr. Idris and later became his Head of Department Business Administration and later Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences. Don’t forget his role in the withdrawal of Dr. Idris’ PhD certificate and he asked the management to stop deducting his check-off dues and automatically, his ceases to be ASUU-LASU member’’, the staff explained.
Attempt by Daily Sun to reach the ASUU-LASU chairmen, Dr. Idris proved abortive as he was not available for comments on the issues raised by the senior staff and calls to his phone were not returned.
Meanwhile, the LASU bulletin stated that the Vice Chancellor, Prof Fagbohun on behalf of the university governing council, Senate, management, staff and students has commiserated the family of Late Prof Oyedijo.
According to the bulletin, the VC in an emotion laden voice when he received students from the Faculty of Management Sciences who paid him solidarity visit said ‘’this is a period of sorrow. We had one minute silence for him during the meeting of Deans. We have mobilized and paid condolence to the family he left behind.’’
Fagbohun described the loss as painful, irreparable and prayed God to give the family the fortitude to bear the grief noting ‘’we prayed for the family and we will support the family.’’
Some suspended ASUU-LASU were spotted on Tuesday at the Senate building after a meeting lamenting the non participation of the union in the burial programme for Late Prof Oyedijo.
The Late Prof Oyedijo bagged his first degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos in 1979 and his PhD from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1998 and with Thesis on The Practice Strategic Management by Nigerian Banks and its Relationship to Corporate Performance
