Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott suffered a serious ankle injury against Leeds United at the weekend.

The 18-year-old midfielder sustained the injury after a tackle from the Leeds defender Pascal Struijk. Elliott’s ankle was trapped under the defender’s foot during a challenge.

The Belgian was heavily criticized on social media after the game but the Liverpool player has now taken to Instagram to defend the Leeds defender.

Elliot shared a post claiming that his injury wasn’t the defender’s fault and he should not have been sent off either.

The Liverpool player branded the injury as a freak incident.

The midfielder is set to undergo surgery this week and he is expected to be sidelined for several months with a dislocated ankle.

Elliott was on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season and he managed to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans after impressing during his loan spell.

The young midfielder will be disappointed to have picked up a long term injury but he has vowed to come back stronger.

Elliott started in three of Liverpool’s four Premier League games so far.

The 18-year-old is highly rated at Anfield and he has a big future ahead of him.

Liverpool lost several key players to long term injuries last season and the Reds will be hoping for better luck on the injury front this year especially after Elliott’s lengthy layoff.

Spurs still keen to sign £60m top target after missing out on him this summer - report - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham Transfer news

Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on the chase to sign Dusan Vlahovic.

According to reports from CalcioMercato, Spurs have made the 21-year-old striker their top target next summer.

The 21-year-old, who was in dazzling form last season (21 goals), has started the season on fire, scoring three goals in three Serie A games already.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move to sign the Fiorentina striker this summer.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported Tottenham were willing to pay up to €70 million (£60m) to sign the striker.

La Liga champions Atletico Madrid were also interested in signing Vlahovic and they had a bid for the youngster turned down by the Viola.

Fiorentina were desperate to keep the striker with them. Fabrizio Romano, the transfer guru, claimed that despite Tottenham’s interest, the north London club didn’t submit a bid for him.

Vlahovic would be a massive signing for the north London club. He is a highly-rated young talent who is enjoying a rich vein of form.

This summer, Spurs managed to keep hold of Harry Kane who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side were not willing to pay the £150m amount Spurs were demanding and the transfer didn’t materialise.

However, Kane will have two years remaining next summer, and Spurs will be looking to cash in on him provided he doesn’t end up signing a new deal in between.

In case they agree to sell him, Spurs can sign Vlahovic as his replacement. Even if they don’t sell him, the north London club will still need to sign a top striker to bolster their attacking ranks.

As it stands, Spurs appear to be preparing their grounds to sign Vlahovic next summer.

Real Madrid star suffers possible career-ending injury

Gareth Bale is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a hamstring injury, reports Spanish outlet El Partizado de COPE.

Having fallen out of favour at Real Madrid, Bale was making strides towards working his way back into contention at the Bernabeu. He started all three of their opening three league games, scoring in the thrilling 3-3 draw against Levante.

Bale celebrates his goal against Levante with teammates Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema

However, he was absent from Los Blancos’ home fixture against Celta Vigo, with Eden Hazard taking his place on the right wing. The hosts came away with all three points, with Karim Benzema scoring a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory.

It has now been revealed that Bale missed the game due to a hamstring injury. According to Spanish radio station El Partizado de Cope, the Welshman is set for a long spell out of action, but the exact length of the injury is not specified.

This will come as a blow to manager Carlo Ancelotti. He will now be relying on Hazard, Vinicius Junior, Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez, and Rodrygo to perform on the wings.

But it is the Wales national team who are more likely to feel the effects of the news. The 32-year-old is the Dragons’ star player and all time top goalscorer, and will be crucial to their World Cup qualifying campaign.

As things stand, Rob Page’s men sit third in their qualifying group. Over the next two months, they have crucial fixtures against Belgium and Czech Republic as they seek to reach their first World Cup since 1958.

The injury could ultimately prove to be the end of Bale’s career. Last summer, there were reports that the winger was considering retirement at the end of his Real Madrid contract in 2022. Depending on the extent of the injury, it is possible that we’ve seen the last of him.

This injury is the latest blow in a tough few years for the former Tottenham Hotspur man. Despite starring in a number of major finals, the fans at Real Madrid didn’t take too kindly to him.

He spent the 2020/21 campaign back at Spurs on loan, where he proved that he still has plenty left to offer. He ended the season with 11 goals and 2 assists in just 923 minutes of Premier League football.

'The real deal' - Townsend says Everton player with 'massive potential' has really impressed him

'The real deal' - Townsend says Everton player with 'massive potential' has really impressed him - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Ben Godfrey

Everton summer signing Andros Townsend has showered heaps of praise on club teammate Ben Godfrey.

Townsend, who joined the club on a free transfer after being released by Crystal Palace this summer, has suggested that Godfrey is one player who can go to the very top.

The former Tottenham winger has impressed heavily so far, with Everton making an unbeaten start to the season. He has suggested that Godfrey is the “real deal” and he has impressed him heavily in training.

When asked which teammate has impressed him more, Townsend told the Daily Mail:

“The one player who does stick out is Ben Godfrey.

“Obviously I played against him last season and he’s got massive potential, but seeing him on a day-to-day basis, he really is the real deal.

“Again, with a manager like Rafa who will work hard to improve him, he can really go to the very top.

“I know he was involved in the England setup in the summer and didn’t quite make the squad, but he’s a player who’s definitely going to go right to the very top sooner rather than later – and by very top I mean playing in major tournaments for England.”

Godfrey was one of the stand-out players last season for Everton under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Toffees signed the highly-rated defender from Norwich City in a £25 million deal on a five-year contract, according to BBC Sport.

Last season, after Everton’s 2-1 win against Leeds, Rio Ferdinand claimed Godfrey as a “top tier U23 defender”.

Known for his crunching tackles and lung-busting runs, Godfrey has quickly become a favourite among Everton fans. He is a versatile defender who played as both right and left-back last season for the club filling in the gaps when required.

The 23-year-old defender is yet to play a competitive game under Rafa Benitez this season having being forced to isolate, but Benitez will surely be looking to unleash him against Burnley.

Seamus Coleman has picked up an injury whilst on international duty, and Godfrey can easily slot in the right-back role.

'Probably played his last game for us' - Some Leeds fans react to 29-yr-old's injury news

'Probably played his last game for us' - Some Leeds fans react to 29-yr-old's injury news - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Leeds United were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool in the Premier League yesterday.

Defender Diego Llorente had to be taken off with an injury and Phil Hay from the Athletic has revealed another injury blow for the Whites.

Apparently, midfielder Adam Forshaw was not a part of the squad to face Liverpool because of a calf strain.

The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries over the last three seasons and he has played just nine matches for Leeds across all competitions since the start of the 2019/20 season.

Forshaw has had a torrid time at Elland Road since joining Leeds back in 2017 and it will be interesting to see if the Whites decide to move him on in the coming months.

Some of the Leeds fans certainly feel that the player needs to be sold in the coming window.

Forshaw has barely contributed since joining the club and it makes no sense for the Whites to hold on to him especially with his constant injury problems.

Furthermore, Marcelo Bielsa has a physically demanding style of play and the 29-year-old midfielder might not be an ideal fit for his system.

Here is what some of the Leeds fans had to say about his injury blow.

Juventus eyeing up deals for Man Utd and PSG stars

Juventus eyeing up deals for Man Utd and PSG stars - originally posted on Sportslens.com

Juventus are targeting Manchester United’s David de Gea and Paris Saint-Germain’s Keylor Navas as they look for a replacement for Wojciech Szczesny, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

Szczesny first came to Serie A on loan from Arsenal, joining Roma for two seasons. His spell at the Stadio Olimpico was enough to convince Juventus to splash out €15 million for him, with the aim of being the club’s replacement for the ageing Gianluigi Buffon.

The Poland international made a bright start to life in Turin, and was soon wearing the number one shirt. He has made 140 appearances for the Bianconeri, helping them to three league titles and two Coppa Italia trophies.

However, his performances have dipped in recent times, leading the Italian giants to pursue alternatives. According to Calciomercato, David de Gea and Keylor Navas are at the top of Juventus’ wish list.

Once considered the best goalkeeper in the world, De Gea’s stock has fallen massively over the last few seasons. A number of mistakes, as well as his lack of ability with his feet, have seen his place at Old Trafford come under threat by the much younger Dean Henderson.

Nonetheless, the Spaniard will feel like he still has plenty left to offer at the top level. With two years left on his contract, Man Utd may be looking to cash in while he still has market value.

As for Navas, he may also be available on the cheap. At 34 years of age, the Costa Rican is still a top class stopper, and has three years on his current deal.

But it probably won’t be long until Gianluigi Donnarumma is handed the gloves at PSG. The young Italian is already considered one of the world’s finest goalkeepers, and is expected to be the club’s number one for many years to come. As a result, Navas may pursue a move away for the final few years of his career.
