Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has revealed that the financial impact of Covid-19 could affect their transfer plans this summer.
The Ibrox outfit have the option to turn Ianis Hagi’s signing into a permanent one for a fee of around £4m and Wilson thinks the financial stress caused by the pandemic could scupper the move.
He said (quotes by Daily Record): “Could the virus impact on our decision to take him? Possibly. But I think the bigger picture for us is the uncertainty of when the transfer window will open – and what the landscape will look like. Ianis has undoubtedly made a really positive impression on us. We’re in regular contact with him, myself, Steven, Gary McAllister and Michael Beale. We were really happy with him and he’ll be on loan to the end of season 19/20, whenever that comes. Rangers have an exclusive option on him but we’ve got a little bit of time before we need to take that. We’ve got a great relationship with him, his agent and his dad (Romanian legend Gheorghe).”
The Romanian attacking midfielder has been in fine form since joining Rangers on loan and keeping him should be the top priority for the Ibrox outfit.
Hagi has tremendous potential and he could develop into a top-class player with coaching and experience. He could be a star for Rangers next season.
It seems that he has already adapted well to Scottish football and he is enjoying his time at the club.
A permanent move to Rangers this summer would be ideal for Hagi as well. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and he has that opportunity at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard could help nurture him without putting the player under too much pressure.
It will be interesting to see if Rangers can get the deal done.
Hagi is already winning games for the Ibrox outfit and the fans will be hoping for more of the same from him next year.
