Inside The Private Worlds Of Former Mo’Hits Stars – Eight Years After

Mo’ Hits broke up as a record label in 2012. Members of the group- Don Jazzy, D’Banj, Wande Coal, Dr SID, D’Prince and K-Switch – have all gone on to chart paths in their lives and careers since the split.

Here’s how they are faring in their individual paths since the break-up almost 10 years ago:

DON JAZZY

Don Jazzy

Since Mo Hits disbanded as a label in 2012, Don Jazzy has gone on to found Mavin Records, arguably the biggest record label in Nigeria. In that time, he has been responsible for the success of some of Nigeria’s biggest names in music like Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Johnny Drille. Many of these superstars have gone on to win multiple awards in the entertainment industry under Mavin Records.

Mavin secured a multi-million dollar deal with Kubanda holdings in 2019 to meet the rapidly growing international demand of the label’s music output.

In the same year, Don Jazzy wowed the entire country with a state-of-the-art building as the label’s new home.

Mavin Records is also now responsible for breakout star Rema, who was discovered by D’Prince via an Instagram freestyle clip.

D’Prince

D’Prince

Since the fallout of his brother’s first Record Label, D’Prince popularly known as Omo Oba has remained an important figure in the entertainment industry by contributing immensely to the success of Mavin Records. He went on to score moderate hits at the label with the songs, ‘Take Banana’, ‘Goody Bag’ and ‘Omo’ba’. He also released his debut album, Frenzy on Mavin Records in 2012.

Still proving everyone wrong, D’Prince gave Mavin Records a new lease of life when he discovered and groomed Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema. Prince has consistently proven that he is more than what meets the eyes.

 WANDE COAL

Wande Coal

Wande Ojosipe, In 2009 released his Debut album Mushin to Mo’ Hits. Following the fallout of the label in 2012 Wande got signed to Don Jazzy new label Mavin. In 2013, Wande left Mavin Records to establish his own record label ‘Black Diamond Entertainment’ under which he produced and released his second studio album, ‘Wanted’.

Though he has struggled to hit the heights many expected of him when he started out, Wande has remained a force to reckon with the music industry with several hits like So Mi So, Ashimapeyin and Iskaba.

D’BANJ

D’Banj

After the dissolution of Mo’ Hits, many thought Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo’s split from longtime friend and manager, Don Jazzy in 2012 would see the end of his career but he has shown that he is more than just an entertainer. D’Banj established DB records a year after the split and in the same year signed a multi-million deal with Sony Music Entertainment that produced D’King Men Album. The album featured J.Sol, Jay Sleek, Durella, Dee vee, and K-switch.

Who knew the talented entertainer had a business acumen? D’Banj heavily invested in agriculture and ICT, he launched Koko Garri and was made Ambassador for Bank of Industry. In 2016 he also launched The Cream platform and was supported by MTN and D’king Men Media Limited.

D’banj got married in 2016 to Lineo, they both had a son Daniel but lost him to a pool tragedy in 2018. He has since welcomed a second son with his wife.

K-SWITCH

K-Switch

Kehinde Oladotun Oyebanjo, brother to the famous Nigerian musician D’banj, has been largely away from public glare since Mo’ Hits disbanded. Shortly after leaving Mo’ Hits with his brother, K-Switch got signed to DB records. He also released a song on the D’King Men Album, ‘Sister Caro’. The album was in affiliation with Sony Music. He has since fathered a child with the Liberian beauty queen, Meenakshi Monica.

DR SID

Dr Sid

When Don Jazzy launched Mavin Records the same year as Mo’ Hits’ split, Dr SID was unflinching in his loyalty to the producer. On Mavin, where he currently serves in the capacity of Vice President, SID continued to score hits with ‘Surulere’ off his 2013 sophomore album Siduction, and later, ‘Kabiyesi’.

Along with his role as a VP at Mavin Records, Dr SID also now holds down a role as Head of Strategy & Partnerships at Accelerate TV.

Like some of his colleagues – Eldee (Playdata) and D’banj (CREAM) – Dr Sid is investing his time and money in other innovations. He is the Vice President at Esports Nigeria, a video gaming company where young Nigerians are trained as professionals in competitive gaming. He has also capitalised on his involvement in professional gaming, to found his own ESports company called ‘Sidizens Gaming’ in 2019.

The father of two has now been officially separated from Simi, his wife of five years.
