How Brad Pitt Won His Second Oscar

Six years after he won an Oscar for his production of ‘12 Years A Slave’, Brad Pitt picked up his second ever Oscar last night at The Academy Awards. Last night’s win is especially significant because it is the 56-year-old’s first acting Oscar – a fact that is shocking to a lot of people considering he has been an A-lister for about 3 decades.

The actor who was married to Angelina Jolie won the Best Supporting Actor for his role as Cliff Booth, a stunt double in the Quentin Tarantino-directed flick, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. Pitt was nominated alongside Al Pacino (The Irishman), Joe Pesci (The Irishman), Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes), and Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood).

It’s been often speculated that the reason Pitt’s been denied an Oscar for so long despite his brilliant performances in a number of films is because the actor’s personal life has often overshadowed his actual talent. His high profile relationships, marriages and breakups have been given more air time and spotlight by the media and general public than his acting.

So what was different this time around?

Nigerian Entertainment Today’s findings show that it’s a  number of factors. First, more than a few critics have described Brad Pitt’s performance in Once Upon A Time as his best one yet. His character Cliff Booth plays best friend and stunt double to struggling movie star Rick Dalton, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Pitt played Cliff so well that even Leonardo’s brilliant performance paled in comparison. It was Cliff who movie lovers and critics were raving about, predicting an Oscar win for Brad Pitt as far back as six months before the event.

You could also say that years after his split from Angelina Jolie and all the negative press that came with it, the world might have finally begun to adjust to Pitt the actor and maybe stop viewing him from the drama-tainted lens that it had viewed him from in decades past.
