What Femi Falodun Shared With The Bean Creative Team

On Friday, 17th January 2020, ID Africa CEO, Femi Falodun visited the serene CCX hub on Victoria Island, Lagos to discuss with the Bean Creative Team – which consists of Talent Managers, Community Development Officers, Operations Specialists and Events Managers -on their projections for the new year. The ID Africa CEO, a student and teacher of Marketing, as he likes to describe himself, has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the Media and Marketing space in Nigeria.

Femi took the team through the rudiments of the 4Ps of Marketing principle. Sharing insights into how understanding Product, Place, Price and Positioning can influence their growth and bottom line. Being primarily a talent management agency in Nigeria, the team at  Bean Creative are concerned with how to go from being just an agency to becoming thought leaders in the industry. Femi was quick to point out to the team, that the fastest way to become thought leaders in the industry, is to think like and become consultants instead of just an agency or middlemen.

In his words, “being an agency in Nigeria comes with some baggage”. According to him, respect comes when the team presents themselves as solution providers and consistently delivers on the value promised, it will only be a matter of time before they truly begin to lead in the talent management industry.

Femi explained to the team that the four principles of marketing function should function hand in hand to affect the bottom line. He analysed further by stating that for a Talent Manager, the artist is the “product”, whether the artist identifies as a mainstream or an alternative artiste, is their “positioning”, which would influence what kinds of brand they will represent, or what kind of shows or concerts they can have or be invited for, which is the “place” and this will, in turn, affect their “price”.

Femi also advised the team to be deliberate about relationships. Showing care and doing the unexpected for – journalists, clients, brands. A little bit of thoughtfulness usually goes a long way. Femi ended that session by explaining that it is important to invest in owned media assets. Engaging with followers, creating an identity and feeding the audiences are all ways of investing in individual media assets.

Femi concluded by pointing out that attention should be paid to data. Monitoring what works and why, as well as what doesn’t work is important to avoid repeating mistakes, measuring growth as well as projecting for the future.
