Ian Wright shares brilliant video of Tanzanian fans watching Samatta make Villa debut - originally posted on Sportslens.com
Aston Villa booked a place in the final of the League Cup yesternight following a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Villa Park.
Dean Smith’s men held the Foxes to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg at King Power Stadium and were leading heading into the 71st minute following Matt Targett’s 12th-minute opener.
However, Kelechi Iheanacho drew the visitors level, and the game appeared to be heading into penalties until Trezeguet’s 93rd-minute strike sent Villa to Wembley, sparking wild scenes of joy and a pitch invasion as the Villans reached their first showpiece final since 2015.
Tanzania international Mbwana Samatta made his Villa debut since completing his £8.5 million move last week, and he was close to scoring.
However, a debut goal wasn’t to be as he failed to properly connect with a Jack Grealish cross from six yards out.
Samatta made history last night, though, becoming the first Tanzanian to play for the club, and his countrymen were watching from Africa.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright shared this video of Tanzanian fans witnessing the striker make history:
