The ‘ember’ months are upon us and we have barely three months to change the story of 2019. These next few months will determine if we can say 2019 was awesome or ‘bleh’ so it may not be the easiest task for everyone. But we’ve found three interesting ways that could make facing the challenges so much easier, plus, you get to laugh too!
You see, we’ve concluded that Spelling Bees should be considered as an extreme sport! The highs, lows and the teeth-gnashing moments are ‘chest-pain-inducing’, and unbelievable. You also get to learn a lot from the tenacious ‘spellers’.
So, from the uber-talented kids that slugged it out at the first batch of the MTN mPulse-sponsored Lagos State Private Schools Spelling Bee competition, we have gotten pointers on how to face challenges.
If you’re still in doubt, just take a look. Kai! We have found three strategies to ace at life! Lol. Here we go!
- Pray and Drink Water: The little lady, Angela Okechukwu, a JSS2 student of Jeeds Trinity College, Illasamaja, Lagos was praying and drinking water throughout the day.
We guess it worked because she waltzed off the stage with the 1st-runner-up badge! PS: She competed against students in 3 to 4 classes above her grade and breezed through them. Do you still doubt that prayer is the key?
2. Smile It Away: That’s another strategy we’ve realized could work if you have a megawatts smile and confidence brimming from every pore in your skin. Then if you actually know what you’re doing, your charm will take you very far! We loved how the eventual 2nd-runner-up at the competition, Oke Folarin Olayemi (JSS3 student of Jeeds Trinity College) gave us that bashful smile at every turn.
3. Frown It All Up: There’s a high possibility that Ifezue Brunor (SS2 student of Jeeds Trinity College) used the ‘frown strategy’. No joke was funny or silly enough. He frowned his way to the top spot!
Just when we thought we could never see him smile, someone handed him the phone to tell his mother of his victory. Our jaws dropped when we saw Brunor’s face light up in smile and laughter. He was all teeth and smiles. What?! Mama Brunor we love you; thank you for being the key to one of the biggest smiles we have seen in a while.
The first batch of the competition left us stunned and impressed with all the extremely hard words that the kids had to spell. These were words that many adults didn’t even know existed and these kids were spelling them. What’s more, they are doing so with complete ease.
Now, we are waiting for the 2nd batch and there are going to be much more nuggets and fun from where that came. So, since 3rd October 2019, the remaining 32 schools have been slugging it out for glory and we are here for it! Kids, we are at your mercy to teach.
