2Baba is a household name who started his music career as TuFace in the Plantashun Boiz in 1999 but after 2 decades of dropping hit songs back to back, winning multiple awards and paving the way for other artists, it’s no surprise to see that he has evolved. No one can deny that he is a living legend and one of the best things that happened to the Nigerian music industry.
He is a social activist: 2Baba is a social activist, always speaking up for what is right and what should be done to make Nigeria better. During the elections earlier this year, he was actively involved, reminding people of the importance of exercising their right to vote. He even released two songs (one in the previous election year) and a movie about the election earlier in the year before the elections were held.- 2Baba’s relevance cannot be over-emphasised: one would think that after having a career that has been going on for 20 years, people will be over him but that could not be farther from the truth. Just ask all the DJs that still play ‘African Queen’ to get a party started. 2Baba is literally a living legend that Nigerians, both old and young adore and love. He has stood the test of time and his opinions and music are still revered 20 years after he started his career.
He is a humanitarian: He is a man on a mission, hell-bent on promoting peace and improving the lives of people with his 2Baba Foundation. Not only does he have an NGO, but he also collaborates with other bodies to help the poor and needy in society. He gave 60% of the proceeds of his song ‘Hold my hand’ to IDP camps after touring the camps and bringing the people joy with his music. He also supports upcoming acts just like he is doing with his ‘Next Up’ talent search.
He has effortless style: Most people who have met 2Baba will probably tell you that he is very humble and it is almost as if that humility shines through his style. 2Baba never looks bad and yet, he never looks overdressed or like he had to be dressed by a stylist. We absolutely love how effortless his style is and how approachable it makes him seem.
- He is a strong man: 2Baba is a dad to 6 kids and the husband to Annie Idibia, who he does not hesitate to flaunt every time he gets the chance to. The interesting thing is that the opportunity to be an awesome dad and husband was almost taken away from him on different occasions. In 2007, when he was robbed, he was shot and then he survived the shooting only to get into a horrible car accident in 2011. Either that man has nine lives, or he is just a very strong man.
