Women’s World Cup: Nigeria’s Super Falcon’s Qualify For Round Of 16

The Super Falcons have finally broken the curse! For the first time in 20 years, they have made it to the round of 16 of the Women’s World cup. After the treacherous three days, the entire nation had to wait to confirm our spot on the round of 16, we finally made it.

Nigeria had lost their last match in the group stage to France on Monday, 0-1, but it appeared there was still hope. The prayer to still make it into the rounds with our 3 points, then began at this point.

However, after Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses beat New Zealand 2-1, the tension intensified as the Super Eagles lost another spot or opportunity to be on the round-of-16 table. Thankfully, Chile had only scored 2 goals against Thailand in their last match yesterday, earning us a spot on the next round.

For the first time in the history of the Women’s World Cup, two African teams, Nigeria and Cameroon, made it into the knockout stages. Nigeria’s Super Falcon’s ended third in their group behind France and Norway after claiming the fourth and final spot in the knockout stage.

Cameroon also came in third behind Netherlands and Canada after Ajara Nchout scored two amazing goals during the match, including the last minute goal.

Nigeria is to face Germany tomorrow by 4:30 pm while Cameroon will be facing England by 4:30 pm on Sunday. We will be rooting for both teams and hoping against all hope that they pull a miraculous win against Germany.

If both teams win their matches, they will be moving to the Quarter Finals but if they lose their matches, they will be out of the Women’s World Cup and on their way home.
