Governor Makinde Hammers NURTW, Bans Union From Further Activities In Oyo

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has added to his plethora of big decisions since assuming office on Wednesday, as he has now slammed a hammer on the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.

Makinde’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Bisi Ilaka, is quoted to have said during a press conference on Friday (today) that the state no longer has any use for the union. Ilaka cited the troublesome attitude of some of the NURTW members as the reason for the decision.

There were reports unrest after clashes among members of different factions in some areas of Ibadan on Wednesday and Thursday. The state will now take charge of all the motor parks.

The governor’s decision follows his declaration that the state was incapable of paying the N30,000 new minimum wage approved for workers by the Federal Government.
