Two weeks after releasing the audio, Olamide has dropped a very suggestive video for his anti-penury track, dubbed ‘Poverty Die’ and unsurprisingly, the video tiptoes along the edges of ‘social vices‘ glorification. Not surprising because the rapper has proven over the years to have no qualms with creating art that is evocative.
Last year, the video for his hit record, ‘Wo’ was banned by the National Broadcasting Commission for overt display of tobacco and earlier this year, although the rapper posited that the message of the song was in opposition to abuse, his smash hit, Science Student was declared unfit for broadcast for suggestively promoting substance and drug abuse.
This time, Olamide delves into the cybercrime epidemic. Not certain if the rapper’s intention is to preach against the act but some scenes in the video finds him pacing in a hall sort of like a teacher supervising an array of masked men, nodding in unison to the tempo of the song with personal computers on their laps – a reference to the harrowing act of internet fraud.
The lyrics of the song Poverty Die saw Olamide waging war against lack and penury – a factor that most cybercriminals refer to as the motivation for their actions. It remains to be seen if the NBC will once again hit Olamide with a ban.
