#DettyDecember: As an “Alte Kid”, Here Are 5 Turn-ups You’ll Love!

December is probably the best month of the year!

Do I even need to explain why?

From the end of the year turn-up, to the harmattan weather for two, or that special Christmas feeling, December is all kinds of lit and we’re here for it.

If like us, you are one of those daring, adventurous Nigerians who will be looking to celebrate the final month of the year in a different way i.e. the “Alte” way, here’s a guide for you.

Side note: For those who may be new to the “alte’” term, this is an urban word (shortened from the word “alternative”) that describes the modern Lagosians who are unafraid to embrace their uniqueness. These are the cool kids, who are courageous and are unapologetically different.

With that out of the way, let’s get to the 5 turn-ups for an “alte” December.

  • Born In Africa Festival (BAFEST)

In just a couple of days, we will witness the very first edition of the Born in Africa festival. Put together by the creative minds at Livespot and sponsored by Tiger Beer, BAFEST is set to bring together the very best talents on the Africa continent. The event is already being called the African concert of the year and all the cool kids are going to be trooping to the Eko Atlantic on the 16th of December to celebrate the very best of African culture.

Adding credence to the event is the backing of Livespot and Tiger. The former being a revered experiential marketing agency, known for set/stage design for some of the biggest shows in the last decade. While the latter is the premium beer brand which is deeply rooted in promoting the culture of being daring and different.

With both these brands behind the BAFEST, you can expect the festival to be very lit.

  • Odunsi’s “Rare” Concert

Odunsi is arguably the most vocal pioneer of the “alte” movement. From his music to his sense of style, Odunsi exudes the radical movement that has provided expression to many young Lagosians. Now with the release of his debut album “rare”, he is set to headline his own concert on the 24th of December. This is one show you don’t want to miss.

  • The Tiger Party

Tiger Beer is very clear in its brand messaging and target audience. It’s ambitious brand theme and narrative have made Tiger a favorite for the cool kids and the “alte” clan. The beer brand will be wrapping up what has been a landmark year by hosting a very wavy party on the 22nd of December.  For now, the performing artists are still under wraps, but you can expect your favorite “alte” guys to turn up when Tiger brings the vibe next week Saturday.

  • Palm Wine Festival

Another pioneer of the new school movement is the rap duo “Show Dem Camp” and this year they will be bringing back their infamous palm wine festival. When the “alte” kids are not enjoying a bottle of Tiger, it is not unusual for them to share a cup of palm wine. Hence, the Palm Wine Festival by SDC is a must go. Performing on the day are the usual suspects – Funbi, BOJ, and LadiPoe. Speaking of LadiPoe . . .

  • Ladipoe’s TAP Concert

Poe has had a good year. Particularly after the release of his “Talk about Poe” Mixtape. Now he’s looking to end the year on a high with his own concert. Revered for his lyrical depth, Poe is the leading rapper of the alternative music movement, so it’s no surprise that he’s going to have the full backing and attention of the “alte” guys when he steps on stage on the 16th of December. If you love good music, this is one you don’t want to miss.

So that’s it, here are the turn-ups you don’t want to miss this December! Here’s to wishing you an “alte” Christmas and a wavy new year.
