Ras Kimono: Lagos State Denies Family Use Of LTV For Lying-in-state

As the body of Nigerian reggae great Ras Kimono begins its journey to mother earth, associates of the late musician have accused the Lagos State Government of denying them the use of the LTV premises hitherto scheduled to host his lying-in-state on Thursday.

The popular Blue Roof Arena within the premises of Lagos Television was billed for the public lying-in-state of the departed Ras Kimono but that offer was withdrawn only hours before the event.

The timetable of the burial rites released by the family listed LTV as the venue of the Thursday event, after which the body would be flown to Asaba, Delta State for onward movement to his hometown, Onicha-Olona where he would be interred.

A couple of associates who spoke to our journalists at COSON Secretariat where the lying-in-state was moved to told NET that they were surprised by the sudden about-face from the Lagos State Government.

“Everybody knows that the venue for the lying-in-state was supposed to hold at LTV. But we were told that that was no longer so late last night. We held a tribute night for Ras Kimono at COSON House on Wednesday night and everybody assumed that the body would move to Delta State from Blue Roof. I think it’s because our brother belonged to the Rastafarian Confraternity or maybe they decided not to allow his body to come into the premises,” they said.

The lying-in-state took place at COSON House for one and a half hours and the body is not en-route the deceased’s hometown.

Ras Kimono died after a sudden onset of illness on June 10 2018, weeks after he clocked 60.
