You think photography is easy? Ask the photographers who go to extreme lengths to get the perfect shots. Yesterday as Croatia players celebrated their winning goal in the Russia 2018 semifinal match against England, a photographer was trampled on as he scrambled to get a photo.
This is the photograph he took.
This was how he shot it.
The Mexican photographer Yuri Cortez who was on duty for global news agency AP, was behind the advertising boards by the sidelines when Croatia striker Mario Mandžukić scored what would be the winning goal in extra time. As he ran away in celebration, his teammates followed suit and all of them ended up in a pile- on top of Cortez.
Squashed as he was, Cortez didn’t stop shooting and he got some of the more remarkable candid shots of the World Cup.
Eventually, he was helped up by the players and was all smiles.
Guess all is well that ends well.
Croatia now face France in the World Cup final on Sunday while England take on Belgium in the third-place match on Saturday.
