Both teams took the game as a game of pride as they fielded their regular first eleven squads to battle for the consolatory position. This was also their second game in the tournament as the former group members played a draw in their group game.

Belgium had a perfect start to the match as just four minutes into the game, they went a goal ahead. Thomas Meunier was the scorer of the goal as he beat English defender Danny Rose to connect with a cross from the left by Chadli.

The goal set the tone for what would be an intense match as England tried to get back into the game but all they tried couldn’t penetrate the Belgians who were solid in protecting their lone goal lead.

In the second half, the English coach Garry Southgate made two changes as he tried to push for the equaliser. Marcus Rashford came into the game for Raheem Sterling while defender Danny Rose was replaced by Jesse Lingard but these additions did not do much to bother the Belgians.

In the eighty-second minute, Belgium got the consolidatory goal with a superb build up with orchestrated by Kelvin De Brune who set up the pass for Eden to slot in the second goal for  Belgium.

This is the best result for Belguim any world cup tournament, though they’d have expected more. The English fans in the stadium were however gracious in support to the Three Lions as they applauded their team after the end of the game.

Croatia will play France in the finals tomorrow with a chance to write their name in the history books as the 13th country to lift the trophy. France also will be looking to get their second title in their history. Kickoff time is 7 PM!
