#ThrowBackThursday: Remembering ‘Pakurumo’ when Wizkid became the crown prince of Naija pop

When Wizkid got signed to Banky W‘s EME label in 2009, it was clear that the boy was something special. It took just about a year for him to show he was a big deal.

Two years later he had released his first album, Superstar and even though it had several hits (Holla At Your Boy and Don’t Dull for example), it was Pakurumo that was the crossover hit.

Like it shows in the video, the song was accepted by all segments of the Nigerian audience: cool kids and owambe lovers. And what’s more, the video had so much famous guest appearances, notably Davido– who is currently in some type of beef with Wizkid now- and Skales– who played Wizzy’s back up singer. Was that a premonition of sorts? Only time can tell.

Enjoy!
