Like Nigerians did when Abacha died, many Cubans are celebrating Fidel Castro’s death

After 50 years of ruling Cuba with an iron fist, Fidel Castro passed away on November 25, 2016 at the age of 90.

And as news of his demise spread across the world, hundreds of Cubans who had been exiled in the United States took to the streets and celebrated his death.

The late revolutionary leader was a controversial figure, with thousands of Cubans escaping the often repressive regime to settle in the US. Many of them started to jubilate at the news of Castro’s death.

During his regime, Fidel Castro was widely criticised for being a harsh dictator and these demonstrations represent the thoughts of several generations of Cubans.
