Conte wants German star to solve Chelsea worries, Blues ready to pay more than double of his price - originally posted on Sportslens.com
Premier League leaders Chelsea are in superb form right now and their defence has been central to their recent run of form.
Antonio Conte’s men have kept six consecutive clean sheets now and are easily the best defensive unit in the Premier League. However, as per reports, Conte is still not satisfied with his options and is looking to improve his defence.
Premium Sport are reporting that Chelsea want to sign the Roma defender Antonio Rudiger and the Italian is willing to pay big money to sign him. Roma signed him for a fee of 13 million Euros and Chelsea are ready to shell out around 30 million Euros for the German star.
The 23-year-old joined Roma back in 2015 and missed a big part of last season with ligament damage. However, the former Bundesliga star has now recovered fully and has been a key player for Roma this season.
Rudiger can operate as a full-back as well as a centre back and would be an outstanding addition to Chelsea’s back three. The German is good on the ball and his style of play is better suited to a three-man defence as opposed to a back four.
It will be interesting to see if Roma are ready to cash in on him just yet, but there is no doubt that Rudiger will an instant improvement on the likes of Cahill and Ivanovic. Furthermore, he could also be the ideal long term partner for Zouma when the Frenchman returns from injury.
