Done Deal: Arsenal agree deal with Dutch club for defender transfer - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Arsenal have agreed to send young defender Stefan O’Connor out on loan again for the 2016-17 season. According to reports from Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf, the 19-year-old youngster has joined Dutch club MVV Maastricht on a season-long loan.
After spending his youth career with Crystal Palace, the English defender joined Arsenal’s academy in 2010 and signed scholarship forms with the Gunners in 2013. He impressed for Arsenal U21s and for the U19Sin the UEFA Youth League and signed his first professional contract in 2014.
The youngster made his senior debut for the Gunners in a UEFA Champions League match against Galatasaray, a game that Arsenal won 4-1 to finish second in the group.
He joined York City of League Two on loan last season and made four appearances for the club. He has been capped for the England national under-17 team and played two matches for his nation.
O’Connor, predominantly a centre-back but can also play as a right-back, now joins the Eereste Divise club where he is expected to get regular experience in a major league. It remains to be seen what future he holds at Arsenal in the long run – is he the one for the future or the club would want to train and sell him at a profit?
