Arsenal open talks for Man Utd target, Agent arriving in London today; Mourinho texted star earlier - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Arsenal have been linked with several strikers this summer and one such name is that of Mauro Icardi.
The Inter Milan striker has been linked with a move away from the club and the likes of Manchester United, Napoli, Arsenal, Chelsea have all been mentioned as potential destinations.
Current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer as well and tried to sign the player for Chelsea. Back then there were reports that Mourinho was texting the player about a transfer.
The Argentine striker is a fine poacher and would be a significant upgrade on the inconsistent Olivier Giroud. The Gunners have struggled due to the lack of a prolific goalscorer and Icardi could be a perfect solution.
According to latest reports, Arsenal have already opened talks to sign the Serie A star. Wenger wanted to sign the Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette initially, but their offer was rejected. It is understood that the French club are holding out for a fee of 40 million pounds.
Calciomercato add that Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara, is all set to travel to London today in order to continue discussions regarding the move.
Inter Milan are reluctant to sell the Argentine striker this summer and might ask for a ridiculous fee. Napoli’s interest in him is likely to drive up the price. The Italian side have just sold Higuain and have a lot of money to buy a replacement. So it will be interesting to see if Arsenal are willing to enter a bidding war for the player.
Icardi scored 16 goals and picked up 4 assists for Inter in 34 appearances last season.
