Breastmilk delivery app, UberNyonyo, goes viral in Kenya

A tech company in Kenya, Village Studios, having developed a ‘Uber for breastmilk’ app decided to test it with a closed user group of mums. What happened after was most unexpected.

‘We almost fell out of our chairs yesterday when we saw that our UberNyonyo breastmilk delivery app got over 100,000 downloads in one day,’ Isis Nyongo Madison, CEO of MumsVillage said.

According to her, the app was developed to solve ‘the problem of transported pumped milk from home/work in small freezers on the back of boda bodas, motorcycle taxis that nimbly get around Nairobi’s traffic’.

She suggested that the app rode on the wave of the excitement generated amongst mothers by the passage of a new health bill which forces companies to set aside special areas for breastfeeding and pummping for nursing employees.

Although UberNyonyo is the first major release of Village Studios, it is believed to have a huge potential for success which the testing confirms.

‘UberNyonyo will soon be available again for downloading on Android and iOS,’ Madison said.
