Liverpool fan favourite agrees Premier League move, 3 year deal signed - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Former Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has agreed on a three-year deal with the Premier League outfit Newcastle United according to the reliable Spanish newspaper AS.
The Spanish manager was sacked by Real Madrid earlier this season after a poor set of results and will return to management this week with the Geordies.
Benitez had two impressive spells in the Premier League previously with Liverpool and Chelsea. The Spaniard came close to winning the Premier League with Liverpool and ended up winning the Europa League with the Londoners.
Newcastle United are having a very poor season and manager Steve McLaren has failed to turn it around despite spending huge sums of money on new players.
Benitez would be quite a coup for Newcastle and Mike Ashley. The Spaniard has coached some outstanding clubs throughout his career and has won several major honours including La Liga and the Champions League.
The former Liverpool manager has always stated that he would like to return to the Premier League one day and he also has a house in Liverpool. Benitez is a massive fan favourite at Anfield and was linked with an Anfield return last summer.
It will be interesting to see if he manages to save Newcastle from relegation now.
The Geordies have a talented squad but their fragile defence has cost them time and again this season. Benitez’ defensive organisation could just help them beat the drop for now.
