It was Wolves that came close to taking the lead inside 10 minutes, when Sikiru Alimi drilled King Osanga's low cross above the woodwork. Alimi's telling header moments later almost gifted the Warri side the lead.

Pyagbara's mazy run in the 36th minute, got to the path of Andrew Abalogu, who could not make the striker's cross count.

Chukwude Stephen would later get the better of Wolves backline in the 46th and 48th minutes, but could not get past goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye.

In the earlier match, Abdulafeez Awakan's strike deep into stoppage time sealed another famous win for Akwa United against Nasarawa United.

Akwa United head coach Maurice Cooreman's men edged close to opening proceedings on the quarter hour mark, when Yusuf Adio's 30 yards pile driver skipped past the woodwork.

Ishaya Anyu almost got the better of Akwa United's goalkeeper, Kayode Femi in the 21st minute, but his effort drifted off the woodwork, despite displacing the goalie.
