Former minister of Education and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has denied reports linking him with a move to decamp from the PDP.

The former governor of Kano State, who spoke to reporters in the state yesterday, declared that he was still a full member of the party, adding that he had no reason, whatsoever, to leave the party at this time or to think of forming another party as suggested by the report.

His words: “I, Sardunan Kano, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has never participated in any meeting with any person or group of persons for the purpose of forming a political party.”

He acknowledged, however, that of recent, like mind members of the party had held series of meetings aimed at re-building the party and to find solutions to some of the problems affecting the party after the last general election.

“The focus of our consultations and meetings with like minds was to ensure internal democracy, which will help the party to move forward.”
