THE immediate past executive chairman of Delta State Sports Commission and President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has declared that Delta sports will remain in the upward swing with the appointment of Tony Okowa, as his replacement.
Commending the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on the choice, Amaju revealed that the new Delta sports boss had been part and parcel of the success story of sports in the state. “We have worked together for years and I can vouch for him. He (Tony) has contributed immensely to Delta sports and I know he will do very well and even surpass the achievements of my predecessor, Solomon Ogba and myself. I expect him to go places because he understands the terrain and has worked with us on many fronts. He is even better than me in temperament because I know I can be difficult to work with but Tony is cool, calm but calculated,” Amaju said.
Amaju also described other members of the board as very competent and experienced and pleaded with them to give the new man on the saddle the same support he received from them while in office.
On his part, a man of few words, Tony Okowa said he knows that expectations are high and that the works of the board as a team will speak for it. He assured that he will put in everything to keep Delta sports at the top even with more effective innovations.
The members of the board sworn in on Thursday at the Government House Asaba include Eldington Kuejubola, Neville Bekederemo and Mrs Chinonye Dafe-Aliyu.
