Manchester United are ready to add to their squad this month and Louis Van Gaal has identified the PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot as an ideal candidate.

Due to injuries, Manchester United have had to field a weakened midfield in some games and, therefore, adding someone like Rabiot would bring much-needed quality and depth to their central midfield.

Rabiot has been courted by several Premier League clubs in the past and it seemed like Arsenal were leading the race for the young midfielder.

However, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, United are now ahead of their Premier League rivals after agreeing to meet PSG’s valuation of the player.

The Gunners have been long-time admirers of Rabiot, but Wenger is reluctant to meet the French club’s valuation.

The report states that Louis van Gaal is ready to pay €28m for the PSG midfielder and bring him to Old Trafford this month.

Although the likes of Carrick and Schweinsteiger are superb players when fit, the Manchester United midfield is lacking in energy, speed and creativity. Van Gaal believes that Rabiot can be a key part of the Manchester United side going forward.

The 20-year-old midfielder is believed to be frustrated with the lack of first-team action and is willing to leave the club in order to play regularly.

Despite signing a new deal with PSG, Rabiot has confirmed that he wishes to leave the club and has spoken to the president about it.

He said: “I’ve asked the president for a loan move in January if my time on the field is insufficient”.

“It’s something that he can’t refuse me — I know he likes me very much. When you train all week, you want to be on the field. Sometimes it’s not possible and it’s frustrating.”

Don Balon claims that Manchester United are confident of beating Arsenal to the midfielder’s signature.

Apart from agreeing to meet PSG’s demands, Van Gaal’s emissaries have assured the player that Old Trafford is the ideal place for him to develop and they have also guaranteed regular first-team football to the player.
