NNPC

From Dennis Mernyi, Abuja

MEANWHILE, the Federal government may have concluded plans to sack over 2000 workers from the oil and gas industry, this month.

Staff to be affected are expected to come from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) among others.

Daily Sun learnt that in order to achieve the project, some staff of the agencies serving at various stations across the country were redeployed to the head offices in Abuja and Lagos in the case of DPR and directed to report with their circulars to the various managers of Human Resources.

It was further learnt that m‎ost of them have remained in the pool since deployment while few were assigned some responsibilities at the dictates of the Human Resource managers. Sources at the some of these agencies have hinted hat the deployment exercise was actually a deliberate plan aimed at restructuring them for optimal performance.

‘The exercise comes as part of efforts by the new management of the agencies and the new administration of President Muhammad Buhari to clean the rot in the oil and gas industry of corruption.

‘It is not targeted at any particular staff or witch-hunt’, the source disclosed.

However, some of the a affected staff who spoke to Daily Sun lamented that their fate of staying in service is hanging since their deployment and redundancy without postings.

“They may be given letters of termination of appointment any moment since because other people are currently doing their jobs,” the source further stated.
