Chelsea transfer close, Champions League winner set to move

Chelsea transfer close, Champions League winner set to move - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic could be on his way out of Chelsea in the summer. Inter Milan are thought to be scouting the 31 year old.

Ivanovic’s contract expires in the summer and the Serbian has not been offered any extension. Given his current form it is highly unlikely that the Premier League champions will retain him.

The Serbian has won two Premier League titles and a champions league with the Blues.

Ivanovic was one of the best defenders in the Premier League last season but the Serbian has been in poor form so far and has made crucial errors that have cost his side.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini is an admirer of Ivanovic’s talents and believes that the Serbian can be a shrewd acquisition for his side.

Considering the fact that Ivanovic will be a free agent in the summer, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with Inter Milan in January if he wants to.

The report states that Ivanovic will consider a move abroad and the chance to play for a prestigious club like Inter Milan will certainly interest him.

Furthermore, a player of his experience is also an attractive proposition especially now that he is a free agent.

Italian media seem to believe that if Chelsea do not offer him an extension, Mancini could well get his man in the summer.

Chelsea are already in need of defenders and if they are willing to let go of the Serbian it is highly likely that the Blues have lined up a potential replacement.

As for Ivanovic, it will be interesting to see how he fares in Serie A if he makes the move. Compared to the Premier League, the Italian league is much slower and will be suited to an ageing defender like him.

All things considered, a move away for Ivanovic is perhaps the best option for all parties involved.
