A video posted on Thursday shows a
woman deliver her own baby in the passenger seat of a car on the way to a
Houston birthing center
A man, believed to be her husband and father of the child, filmed the birth as he drove. The 10lb baby boy is the couple's third child, following two daughters, aged 2and 1.
Lesia Pettijohn of Lake Jackson told her husband to record her giving birth once she realized the baby would arrive before they could make it to a Houston birthing center.
'I was probably freaking out way
more than I should have. But I really didn't want to have him in the
car. I was scared. I didn't know if he'd be breathing OK or if he would
need anything else,' Lesia said.
The video, which was posted on YouTube on Thursday, opens with the caption, 'We've been driving for 45 mins. Already'
After screaming several times, the
unidentified woman realizes that the baby's head is coming out, so she
takes down her pants enough to pull the baby out. The man then gives the
woman a high five, saying 'We did it'.
'He came out right in the car! Oh my god. You're beautiful! Oh my goodness! What do I do?' she responds.
But the mother of 3 must have been playing modest because the Go-Pro
footage that's gone viral since last Thursday shows a calm, collected
woman keeping it together in a crazy situation.
Lesia explained that she delivered that baby herself because her
husband, John, kept driving down the highway towards the Bay Area Birth
Center at her insistence. She said she was afraid they may need help at
some point and neither had a cell phone.
Thankfully, everything turned out fine.
'When he was out I was like I gotta push the rest of him out and grab him and pick him up and I was like what do I do, what do I wrap him in? My shirt is pretty long I will wrap him up in that,' said Lesia.
And now little Josiah, at just days old, is a star.
