Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been informed he will be at the top of the Red Devil’s goal chain next season.
Rooney has been deployed in several playing positions at United under Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes and incumbent gaffer Van Gaal, and the England forward managed just 14 goals in all competitions last term.
It is understood United may still sign another striker this summer to bridge the gap for the departure of Radamel
Falcao and Robin van Persie.
But Rooney, 29, has been assured he would be United’s main striker in the 2015/16 campaign with Juan Mata, Angel di Maria and Dutch wonderkid Memphis Depay expected to provide the necessary bullets for him to shoot.
